Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Soil Behavior

This research investigates the coupled thermal–hydraulic–mechanical (THM) behavior of saturated and unsaturated soils under changing environmental and loading conditions. Particular emphasis is placed on how temperature, moisture, soil suction, and stress interact to influence soil-water retention, effective stress, deformation, compressibility, strength, and yielding behavior. The work combines experimental data with advanced constitutive modeling, including temperature-dependent soil-water retention and Modified Cam-Clay frameworks, to predict soil response under elevated temperatures and other extreme conditions. Applications include nuclear waste repositories, underground energy storage, foundations, slopes, and climate-resilient geotechnical infrastructure.
